A Year in Review
I was just chatting with someone the other day about how more than any other year that we can remember- people are focusing on the last few months of 2019. They are reevaluating goals and action steps, making new goals, setting intentions, and making it publicly known. They crave accountability! They are pushing back against the statistic that only 8% of Americans stick to their New Year's Resolutions.
People are on to something.
“Reviews” are commonplace with many employers. 3, 6, 9, 12 months and yearly reviews are a time for supervisors to formally sit-down with employees and evaluate expectations, goals, progress, and performance. Applying this practice to ourselves is a great way to stay goal-oriented and pave the way to goal attainment!
Personal Performance Reviews allow us to regroup and evaluate where we started, where we are, and where we want to be. This is the time to celebrate the wins and address areas for improvement. As painful as this process can, and probably will be, it is an opportunity for the growth you desire.
Areas of improvement may mean more training related to your career goals, more active days at the gym, using your habit tracker app or hiring a coach for accountability. A review of your journal or habit tracker may reveal obstacles and blocks in your way. DOCUMENT IT ALL!
Getting crystal clear on the concrete goals you want to accomplish in the next 3 months, creating time-lines and dead-lines with laser focus, and determining when you will review your action plan again are powerful steps that lead to success. Somewhere I read it takes 66 days of routine behavior to create a habit. Some claim 21 days. It doesn’t matter. You still have to do the work. Discipline and focus get us to goal.
The year and the DECADE are almost over.. Are you any closer to where you want to be? What do you need to work on? Any successes? What tactics do you need to let go of and replace?
